Monster Tench Finally Hits the Net

The second week in May will go down in Three Ponds History as the week when a 10lb Tench was landed, and just like buses, not one but TWO came along in quick succession!!

The first went to Henry Walsh one of our long time residents, who has been fishing the lake for years. He needed the help of a passer by to help land the beast as his chest isnt what it used to be and frankly he was “Knackered!” The fish wieghed in at a huge……….10 1/2lb !! Well done Henry, unfortunately no camera was at hand but it was witnessed by several owners. The beauty fell to good old luncheon meat in the margin.

A few days later one of our regular Day Ticket anglers landed another that went over 10lb, this time on paste.

Oak Pond is certainly responding well to the growing reputation as an excellent Tench water. As if to highlight that I fished the other day for a couple of hours, bagged a couple but was not too excited that they only went to 5lb and 6 1/2lb !! Lets hope for many more, Dave

Typical Days fishing on Oak Pond

Earlier this week Elliott Rollled up mid morning for his first day on Oak Pond. Having scoped out the lake and listened to our advise he settled in for a relaxing day in the sun.
Fishing corn hook bait with a method feeder it wasn’t too long befor he banked a stunning little 4 1/2lb Tench.
After some more sunbathing and now fishing pellet with the method his line took off again, this time smashing his Tench PB with a 7lb beauty!
Opting for a change of tack he played around with a spinning rod for a while, managing to pull out a 51/2lb Pike.
Not a bad short first session, well done Elliott, see you on the bank again soon.

New Season Underway

So here we are another season up and running. Our owners are busily getting their vans all set up for a summer of chilling out enjoying the peace and tranquility the site offers.
During the closed months we have been busy relaying underground electric cables to about half the site, lots of work for little to show for it, but essential non the less.
One of the highlights of the year to come is our 10th Anniversary Party. We thought 10 years in business was worth celebrating so we are having a bash for all our owners in June, can’t wait.
So welcome back everyone new and old lets hope for a long hot summer!

A Years Fishing at Three Ponds

A year’s fishing in 250 words
Another year has passed at Three Ponds, and with that another fishing season. There have been highs and lows, catches and blanks, but overall a fairly productive season once again.
The season started with a new lake record, one of the supposed “uncatchable” carp was landed at an impressive 26lb 4oz, caught by none other than park owner, Dave Barlow. The fish, full of spawn, was caught in about the third or fourth weekend in March, on a 48hr session.
So after that successful start to the season more was to follow.
The season really started to kick in around May/June time when huge bags of Tench were being pulled out. Some in excess of 10 Tench in a day being caught by a single angler. Tench of over 9lb had by our own Damien Watts and several 7/8lb Tench as well. There was also another carp to come out at 21lb.
The first of our three annual competitions took place on the 5th June and was won by Alan King. The second was on the 7th August and the trophy was taken home by Bob Torbett. The third competition was held on Heron Pond on the 18th September with Alan King again taking first place. For our fourth competition we decided on a pike only match down on Heron pond. This was held on the 30th October and was won by Craig Currie.
So there we go a whole season summed up in 250 words. So now that the ice is out, my gear is packed away in the shed for the winter, so until next season, tight lines.
Matt Barlow

Winter at Three Ponds Holiday Park

Our first winter open on park has been exciting, fun and somewhat challenging.
Just our luck to get the hardest winter in many years but this has not deterred our hardy holiday makers who have enjoyed the snowy views of the park and the surrounding Downs.
One owner braved the snow and ice to enjoy a day or two of pike fishing.
The happy atmosphere on park has made the run up to christmas a very enjoyable time.

“uncatchable” Carp

During the long cold winter Matt and I came up with a plan to catch one of Oak Ponds large carp that very, very rarely make it to a landing net.
The weekend of 26th March was decided upon.
Features were found, pre-baiting carried out and the traps were set.
Predicatable it was the Tench that showed up for dinner first, with Matt bagging a couple 6lb fish in the first few hours. I then wieghed in with a small but perfectly formed 4lb Tench, then fairly well into the night I banked a new Personal Best Tench at 7lb.
Then at 1.15am the line melted off my left hand rod, the one on our baited area. Immediately I knew this was no Tench!
After relatively short scrap the monster was in the net.
Not only was it a new best UK Carp for me but also a new lake record at 26 1/4lb.

All thing considered a pretty good session

Sun Shines on for Park BBQ

At last a sunny warm day for the annual park BBQ. Over fifty owners gathered beside Oak pond and enjoyed a good old chat, some half decent food and a couple of drinks on what turned out to be a truly lovely summers day.

A Typical Tench Day on Oak Pond

As is usual with Tench fishing the alarm went off at an unearthly hour to get lines in at first light.(ish)

With mist rolling over the lake we set up in “Big Bay” and “Gate” swims. Big Bay had been the killer Tench swim for the past 3 weeks but had started to slow down a bit so I plumped for the little fished Gate swim.

Sure enough I was the first to put a fish on the bank with a mint 4lb female. It just got better from there with a 3 1/2lb and a 5lb before Damion landed a beautiful 5 1/2Lb female. After another two Tench out of gate, Damion waded in with a 6 1/2 monster.

Not to be out done I landed a new PB at 6lb and the just as we were about thinking of packing up my left rod screamed off and after some serious hit and hold fishing to keep it out of the trees on one side of the swim and lilies on the other I banked another PB at 6 3/4 LB.

Fantastic days Fishing

Ode to Three Ponds

Of ponds we have three
They’re a pleasure to see
With pond life you’ve ne’er seen the like
If you do but search
You’ll find Tench, Carp and Perch
And even some large fearsome Pike!
